I offered my friend Lucie a photo session as she was pregnant and due in a week or so. She was more than happy and excited about it so she came with her husband, her mum who was visiting from France and her lovely daughter. I took a few family portraits first and then it was all about her and her belly. We started the session with a few natural images...

And then we played around with a bit of fabric, some tulle that I had in the studio.
Maternity portraits are all about the silhouette and the belly but most importantly the woman in front of the camera HAS to feel comfortable and relaxed. Being pregnant is a very special time for any woman and some of us are very self-conscious and don't want to be photographed. But ladies, please think about your kid. I wish I had seen a few photos of my mum looking so happy & beautiful when she was expecting me. Being pregnant is one of the most unique experience a woman can live...so capture it, embrace it because it doesn't last long.
